Google Acquires Green Parrot Pictures

Google has bought up an Irish company with a technology that will provide better video quality on Youtube.

Google announced yesterday that it has acquired the Irish company, Green Parrot Pictures, which specializes in digital cinema technology. Green Parrot Pictures has developed a technology that can be used to improve image quality of videos uploaded to YouTube.

According to Google, Green Parrot Pictures technologies to increase the sharpness of video clips and reduces noise while video clips are uploaded to the service. Technology should serve as Google very good at video clips taken with mobile phones.

The technology from Green Parrot Pictures has previously been used in several major films like Lord of the Rings, X-Men and Spiderman.

The technology that Green Parrot Pictures developed makes it possible to improve image quality while movies use less bandwidth and reduce load time, writes Jeremy Doig on Google in a blog post.

Google said in its blog that the service had 144.1 million unique visitors in January. In second place comes Vevo with 51 million unique visitors. Each week, charging the video clips in time corresponding to 170 000 feature films.
